Sky Sports: NUFC submit Callum Wilson bid & have £13.5m offer accepted for Jamal Lewis

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has claimed that we have had a £13.5m bid accepted for promising young left-back Jamal Lewis – and have submitted an offer worth £20m for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson.

Starting with Lewis, he broke the news on Twitter this morning that we had enquired about the 22-year-old at the start of the window and had been quoted around £18m – forcing us to look elsewhere.

Sky Italy had reported that we were on the cusp of signing Brazilian left-back Rogerio for £12.5m, which makes you think perhaps Norwich have lowered their asking price last-minute and prompted a swift U-turn from Lee Charnley & Co? Or do we want two left-backs? Surely not for £13.5m and £12.5m each.

Elsewhere, Downie has also confirmed what we’ve this morning made a bid worth £20m for Callum Wilson.

As you can see below, he states that Bournemouth are yet to respond to the offer, and suggests they want Matt Ritchie from Newcastle as part of the deal – however that part-exchange has proved difficult (hence why we may have made a cash offer that does NOT include the winger):

With this a few million more than Aston Villa’s offer of £15m plus add-ons – that was rejected on Friday – let’s hope Bournemouth accept to avoid a prolonged bidding war.

Downie also states that Wilson is ‘definitely keen’ on a move to Newcastle and has told the Cherries he wants a move to continue playing Premier League football.

Back to Lewis, I think he would be an excellent signing for us. He was a rare diamond in an otherwise rough season for Norwich and has already been capped 12 times for Northern Ireland at such a young age.

It is refreshing to see us signing players who have their best years ahead of us and for a respectable transfer fee too. I’m not holding my breath, but it’s the sort of ambitious signing that us supporters crave on a more regular basis!

Our transfer policy this window has been to buy Premier League proven players – and I 100% support this.

If – and it’s a huge if – we manage to get Hendrick, Lewis, Fraser and Wilson through the door, then that would be a very, very solid window for us given the circumstances that we are in.
