It’s official! Callum Wilson has completed a £20m move to Newcastle United, signing a four-year deal at the club.
The 28-year-old striker arrives from Bournemouth after passing a medical on Tyneside over the past 24 hours.
It’s also being reported by The Athletic that the England international will be handed the famous number 9 shirt, with him expected to take it from Joelinton.
Here’s what Wilson told NUFC.o.uk after putting pen to paper:
“From the minute I knew that Newcastle were interested, it was definitely something that appealed to me.
“It’s a massive club with great history. Along the years, they’ve had great strikers so if I can emulate half of what they’ve done, I’d like to attempt that.
“I believe in my ability as a player. As a striker I think it’s important to set yourself goals long term and short term, and I’m hoping to achieve them.
“With the players around me, I believe we can get the goals we need as team and I want to help contribute to that.”
A brilliant signing for the club and a huge boost for Steve Bruce heading into the new season – which kicks off at West Ham this weekend!
Wilson is expected to meet his new Newcastle teammates this afternoon and be immediately involved in today’s training session, although it’s not yet known if he’ll be available for Saturday’s opening game.
Finally a striker with Premier League pedigree, with Wilson scoring 41 goals and bagging 16 assists in 126 top flight appearances.
Welcome to Tyneside, Callum!
