Danny Mills predicts how many goals Callum Wilson will score in 2020/21…if he stays fit

Today we announced the £20m signing of Callum Wilson and pundit Danny Mills expects the 28-year-old to have a stellar first season in black and white – backing him to bag between 15 and 17 goals IF he stays fit.

Wilson has played 126 Premier League games, scoring 41 goals, meaning he scores roughly a goal every three games.

On that basis, if we’re lucky to have him fit for all 38 games this season we can expect him to score 12-13 goals – although Mills thinks he may take his game to the next level on Tyneside if his knee holds up following a few ACL injuries over the years.

Here’s what he told Football Insider:

“I think it is really good value for money, especially baring in mind what they spent on Joelinton.

“If he plays 38 league games he will probably get you 15, 16, 17 goals. That would be a really good return and goals is something that Newcastle need.

“He has got pace as well and that can be utilised.

““A fantastic move for Newcastle and an ideal, perfect, signing for Steve Bruce.”

That’s definitely an ambitious expectation of Wilson, who’s biggest Premier League tally was 14 goals in the 18/19 campaign.

However, his reasoning may lie in the fact that we’ve got one of the more frightening attacks outside of the top six, with Ryan Fraser already boasting an electric partnership with the England International when both are fit.

Not to mention the fact that Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron have the pace and ability create a plethora of openings for him, providing Bruce finds a way to get the best out of all four, that is!

Every fan would be ecstatic if Wilson can notch 15 goals in the Premier League for us, with the last player to do so being Demba Ba!

  1. I obviously can’t speak for every Newcastle supporter, but I’d be happy if he managed 13 goals this season.
It’s pointless putting pressure on the lad, but 13 goals IMO would be a decent return for his first season in black & white??
