Wilson speaks out on Fraser, tells Sky why he rejected Villa & says he’s ready to score vs West Ham

Callum Wilson has just been speaking live on Sky Sports to North-East reporter Keith Downie from the club’s Benton training base.

The £20m man discusses everything from Ryan Fraser, to going straight into the side on Saturday, rejecting Aston Villa and potentially behind handed the club’s famous number nine shirt.

Starting with his availability for this weekend’s opening game of the season at West Ham – a club he’s got a brilliant record against – here’s what he’s had to say:

The 28-year-old then commented on former Bournemouth teammate Ryan Fraser, who is expected to sign at St James’ Park later today after Keith Downie just confirmed on Twitter that he too has passed his medical on Tyneside.

Here’s what he had to say about the winger he linked up brilliantly with in 2018/19, saying he was a ‘great partner’ at Bournemouth and someone who would be a superb addition to any team:

Wilson then admits he couldn’t turn down a move to a ‘huge’ Newcastle United – despite the Coventry-born striker being offered to chance to return closer to home at Aston Villa:

Wilson admits it wasn’t an easy decision, but says the iconic number 9 shirt and the film GOAL played a part in his decision!

Last but not least, Wilson then discussed talk of him being handed the number nine shirt.

He claims it’s ‘not been decided yet’, yet The Athletic insist he’s set to take the famous shirt from Joelinton:

A great signing for Newcastle United and one who not only looks ready to start at West Ham, but set to be joined by Ryan Fraser any minute now!
