Some more good news on the transfer front today, with Sky Sports News confirming in the last few moments that Jamal Lewis is now on Tyneside and undergoing a medical.
The 22-year-old was withdrawn from the Northern Ireland side set to face Norway last night, allowing him to travel across to Newcastle to finalise his £15m move from Norwich.
As reported below, Keith Downie also reports that Steve Bruce wants the left-back to be in his squad for Saturday’s trip to West Ham, along with fellow new boys Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser:
Another brilliant signing for the club and one that is badly needed ahead of Saturday’s season opener, with us currently having NO fit left-backs in our squad now Paul Dummett remains sidelined and both Jetro Willems and Danny Rose have returned to their parent clubs following loans.
Lewis was one of Norwich’s shining lights in their 2019/20 relegation season last term, with his marauding runs, athleticism and quality on the ball standing out in Daniel Farke’s Canaries side.
The fact Liverpool were bidding for him earlier this summer before they looked elsewhere also says a lot about his potential as a player.
Hopefully the medical goes smoothly and he can sign over the dotted line ASAP!
