It’s official – Newcastle United have completed the signing Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis.
The 22-year-old arrives for a fee of around £15m and has signed a FIVE-year-deal at St James’ Park.
Here’s what the Northern Ireland international has told NUFC.co.uk after putting pen to paper today:
“It was a little bit unexpected but it was something that I was obviously looking forward to when I heard that there was serious interest, so I’m delighted to be here now.
“Newcastle’s such a great club with such history and I knew it was an opportunity I would love to take with both hands.”
Steve Bruce has also had this to say on Lewis – whose signing finally sees us land a left-back on a permanent deal following recent loans spells for Jetro Willems and Danny Rose:
“Jamal is a very exciting prospect.
“I watched him flourish in the Championship two years ago and he made a real fist of it in the Premier League last season.
“He is only 22 years old and has a wonderful future ahead of him so I hope he is a Newcastle United full-back for years to come.
“It’s been a great week for us with incoming players.
“We have had to be patient but these players improve us, which is key.”
Another very good signing for Newcastle United, with so many at Norwich having nothing but great things to say about his ability on the pitch and first class attitude off it.
It’s also worth noting that Liverpool made a £11m bid to sign him last month – which says all you need to know about his potential as a player.
Welcome to the club, Jamal!
