NUFC ‘interested’ in Chelsea defender & offered chance to sign loan target for £20m – Reports

According to ESPN, Newcastle have been showing interest in signing Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori.

This comes after reports in the last 24-48 hours suggest a deal agreed in principle for Arsenal’s Rob Holding has stalled after a change of heart from Mikel Arteta.

With that in mind, it seems we may have turned out attentions to Tomori, although ESPN do report that the 22-year-old looks more likely to join Everton on loan instead.

Elsewhere, some surprise news has arrived from Sky Sports on Rhian Brewster – another reported loan target of Steve Bruce’s.

Despite recent suggestions that they could keep him around and reject any loan offers after his impressive form over pre-season, Sky Sports now claim that they could now cash in on the England U-21 star if a £20m bid arrives.

That said, it’s said they’d include a buy-back clause in any deal, allowing them to bring him back to Anfield at a set fee if he excels.

If that’s true and a loan deal is no longer a possibility, that may all but end our interest in the 19-year-old, with another £20m move seeming impossible now we’ve just paid that to bring Callum Wilson to Tyneside.

With Holding tipped to stay at Arsenal, Tomori likely to join Everton and Brewster seeming unlikely to now leave on loan, it may be time for Bruce to look at other loan targets at centre-back and up top?
