Florian Lejeune set to be reunited with ex-NUFC flop as he closes in on exit – Reports

Florian Lejeune looks set to leave Newcastle United on a season-long loan, according to reports this lunchtime.

This comes from The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder and Miles Starforth of the Shields Gazette, who reveal that the Frenchman is set for a spell in Spain – and could well be heading to Alaves.

The La Liga side finished three points above the drop zone last season and also have ex-Mag Joselu on their books, meaning Lejeune could be reunited with a player he’ll know well from their time together on Tyneside:

It’s a shame how things have worked out for Lejeune – who looked a class act in his first season on Tyneside following a £8.7m move from Eibar – however he’s slipped way down the pecking order following TWO devastating ACL injuries in the space of a few years.

He didn’t feature over project restart and also missed our final pre-season friendly of the summer vs Stoke after struggling in our 5-1 defeat against Middlesbrough last week.

Hopefully he can stay fit and find some form in Spain. Meanwhile, his exit means our hunt for another centre-back may be cranked up a notch – especially now a loan move for Ryan Holding appears to be off.
