Jetro Willems on the move? I sincerely hope he’s heading back to Newcastle United…

Jetro Willems’ latest posts on social media suggest the Frankfurt full-back and former NUFC loanee is on the move – and Newcastle fans are praying he’s referring to a potential return to St James’ Park!

The Dutchman has openly spoke about his want to return to Newcastle this summer – re-affirming his admiration for the club, the fans and his team-mates throughout ever since a ACL injury cruelly cut short his successful loan spell.

Have a look at the social media posts from Twitter and Instagram below – they’re certainly interesting considering he’s made it abundantly clear how keen he’d be to re-sign for the club this summer:

While some are keeping their fingers crossed that ‘on my way’ refers to Tyneside and ‘text them that I’m coming’ to his ex-NUFC teammates, there are also a few fans in Holland hoping he’s on his way back to PSV – the Eredivisie giants he starred for between 2011-2017.

Whether these cryptic tweets mean anything or not, his signing would benefit all parties and should be something we are seriously considering, especially after reports in Germany suggested Frankfurt would allow him to leave on the cheap.

For us, we get a player who has proven he can perform in the Premier League and someone who will provide excellent cover and healthy competition for Jamal Lewis – not to mention the fact Paul Dummett is injured far too often these days and hardly a natural left-back when fit.

He was a vitally important member of the dressing room last season and became a fan-favourite in just 19 games. His partnership with Allan Saint-Maximin down the left side boasted frightening flair in a team which was otherwise pretty dull.

As for the 26-year-old, he wants to play for Newcastle. That’s just a fact and he couldn’t have made that clearer over the past six months.

He needs game time and the opportunity to regain his fitness after a brutal knee injury. As back up to Lewis, he’d be able to do this without being relied upon to play week in, week out.

You can’t imagine a deal will cost much, as Frankfurt want him off the books and are willing to let him go for next to nothing according to reports in Germany.

It may be that he’s got a move lined up elsewhere, but hopefully Willems’ posts are about us and Steve Bruce can get a deal over the line soon!
