Big chance for Bruce as NUFC are handed generous route to the Carabao Cup quarter finals

Late last night, the draw was made for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup – and it’s another generous result for Newcastle United.

We travel to League Two side Morecambe in the third round next Wednesday after beating Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at St James’ Park earlier this week, and our potential last 16 opponents have now been revealed.

If – and it’s a big if after our lucky escape on Tuesday – we beat Morecambe next week, we’ll face either Watford or Newport County in the fourth round – meaning we’re just two wins over lower league opposition away from the quarter finals.

Here’s a breakdown of our Carabao Cup schedule so far, followed by the fourth round draw in full:

  • 2nd round – 1-0 win vs Blackburn (September 15th, 7.30pm)
  • 3rd round – Morecambe away (September 23rd, 7.45pm)
  • 4th round – Watford / Newport away (w/c 28th September)

Getting ahead of myself I know, but with the draw being generous to us up to this point, there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t get ourselves into the quarter final.

Bruce helped us reach the FA Cup quarter final in his first season in charge. Let’s hope we can go a few better and attack the Carabao Cup this time around.

With the draw we’ve been given, it’s certainly another reason to bring in a few more signings before October 5th to make sure we can compete on a few fronts across 2020/21!
