Bruce shares transfer update, hints at loan deals & responds to Vilca / Yedlin rumours

Steve Bruce has refused to comment talk of Rodrigo Vilca potential arrival at St James’ Park, insisting it’s not right to discuss players signing before a deal is done.

Initial reports claimed we were ‘on the brink’ of signing the 21-year-old South American for £250,000 on Wednesday night, however Lee Ryder has since suggested that Deportivo Municipal will demand slightly more for the talented no.10.

Elsewhere, Bruce has suggested it’s news to him that DeAndre Yedlin is on his way to Besiktas, with this coming after Sky Sports reported over lunchtime that the American was ‘close’ to joining the Turkish giants.

On other incomings, Bruce appeared to hint at potential loan additions towards the end of the transfer window, saying we’ll “see what the market throws at us” and “what becomes available” once the big guns get moving and decide who’s in and who’s out of their final 25-man squads set to be submitted next week.

Here’s what he had to say on all of the above, starting with his response to links with Rodrigo Vilca:

Bruce on Vilca & incomings

“I’m not going to comment on anybody coming in terms of names. That’s not me.

“I’ll never say never (for more incomings).

“We need to see what the market throws at us in the next few weeks.

“A lot of the big clubs have not really started yet so we’ll see what becomes available.

“I’m pleased with what we’ve done so far but we’ll see in terms of incomings with what happens.”

Bruce on DeAndre Yedlin to Besiktas

“I haven’t had anything (on Yedlin).

“I’ve seen it, but I’ve seen us linked with so many players.

“As far as I’m concerned, that’s pure speculation.”

So, it seems Bruce is keeping tight lipped on Vilca out of respect to his current club and knows nothing about a potential move to Turkey for Yedlin – despite Sky Sports’ big claims earlier this afternoon.

As for loans, with two domestic deals still available to us, it’ll be interesting to see who might become available later this month, with the likes of Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster, Arsenal’s duo Eddie Nketiah and Callum Chambers, Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori and Man Utd’s Chris Smalling all linked.
