‘Exclusive’ reveals NUFC’s plan B now loan deal for Arsenal’s Rob Holding is dead

A few weeks ago, The Athletic revealed that we’d agreed to sign Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

He looked all set to sign after playing in their Community Shields clash with Liverpool, however the deal soon went quiet, with Mikel Arteta confirming he’d now stay in North London after impressing in their opening day win over Fulham last weekend.

A week on, an ‘exclusive’ from TEAMTalk says we’ve now turned our attentions to another Arsenal defender instead – Callum Chambers.

It could well be them putting two and two together, however this seems like just the sort of signing Steve Bruce may be looking at, with him having Premier League experience, versatile, likely to be available on loan and at a good age at 25.

The same piece states that Leeds, Fulham and West Ham are also keen and suggests Arsenal are looking to sell for £12m, but a loan deal with a possible option to buy may be something we look at should this later transfer rumour prove to true.

The fact he has played at right-back and as a holding midfielder in his career may also suit Steve Bruce, with us an injury to Hayden or sale of Yedlin away from lacking depth in both areas.

One to watch over the coming weeks? He would certainly fit the bill now we’re looking elsewhere for centre-backs available on loan.
