After Sunday’s disastrous performance the bookmakers now have NUFC as one of the favourites to be relegated this season.
Most bookmakers are offering the low price of just 9/4 for us to fall through the Premier League trapdoor, with Fulham the favourites and newly promoted West Brom deemed the second most likely to go down.
Other contenders then include West Ham – who are third favourites along with NUFC at 9/4 – followed by Sheffield United (5/2), Burnley (3/1) and Aston Villa (10/3), with the bookies believing Brighton and Palace are outside bets at 5/1 each and Leeds and Southampton deemed even more unlikely again at 7/1.
Here’s the current relegation odds in full as things stand (via Bet365):
- Fulham – 1/2
- West Brom – 4/7
- Newcastle – 9/4
- West Ham – 9/4
- Sheffield United – 5/2
- Burnley – 3/1
- Aston Villa – 10/3
- Brighton – 5/1
- Crystal Palace – 5/1
- Leeds – 7/1
- Southampton – 7/1
We started the summer at the same price, but a successful transfer window and win at West Ham saw our price drift. But after the diabolical 0-3 drubbing against Brighton, it’s no shock that we’re expected to be embroiled in a relegation dog fight. If we play like we did on Sunday on a consistent basis, we’ll certainly be relegated.
Fulham and West Brom are the only teams whose odds of being relegated are lower than us.
The former are being offered at just 1/2 and the latter at the 4/7 mark – unsurprising considering they’ve conceded FIFTEEN goals between them and lost both their opening games so far this season.
After Sunday’s capitulation, do you see us beating the drop?
