We still have TWO games to get through, but there’s absolutely no reason why Newcastle United shouldn’t progress to the quarter finals of this year’s Carabao Cup following a surprise turn of events on Tuesday night.
Fourth tier strugglers Newport County beat former Premier League regulars Watford 3-1 in their Carabao Cup third round tie – meaning we now have to beat two League Two sides to reach the last eight of the competition, starting with Morecambe tonight!
Many expected the Hornets to easily put away the Welsh outfit, but an uninspiring performance from a second string side saw them crash out the of the cup.
This puts more pressure on Steve Bruce to get a result against Morecambe tomorrow night – knowing that there is an easier path to the latter stages of the competition, not that it would be typical of Newcastle United to win our next two in the tournament without any scares!
Similar to last year’s FA Cup run, the draw has been kind to us as we have been drawn against lower league opposition throughout the cup; giving us as good as a chance as ever to get our hands on some silverware.
Hopefully, we can defeat Morecambe without any complications and start looking ahead to the tie at Rodney Parade on the week commencing 28th September!
