Steve Bruce makes big Jacob Murphy admission after superb display in 0-7 win at Morecambe

Speaking after our 0-7 win at Morecambe, Steve Bruce has confirmed that Jacob Murphy will NOT be leaving the club on loan this summer.

Bruce says the 25-year-old has “improved enormously” following his successful loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday and believes he’s now earned a big second chance at St James’ Park.

Here’s what the gaffer had to say after the former England U-21 bagged a brilliant goal and assist in his man of the match display in Morecambe:

“I won’t be letting him out on loan.

“He deserves to stay with us and he’s improved enormously.

“He’s had a really good pre-season and has shown a great attitude.

“He’s benefited from being out on loan last season and has really given us food for thought.”

It may have been against League Two opposition, but the winger was absolutely outstanding on Wednesday night – and has perhaps made up Bruce’s mind with such a superb display.

He had the beating of his man every time, looked frighteningly quick, composed on the ball and capable with both feet too, with him causing havoc when he cut in on his left to shoot or when going on the outside and delivering countless inch perfect crosses with his right.

His goal was superbly taken and he could’ve had at least three or four assists if some of our finishing had been better!

Let’s hope he can take real confidence from this and kick on after without doubt his best display in a black and white shirt.
