New relegation odds emerge after 1-1 draw at Spurs – Some big early changes at the bottom

The bookies have released an updated set of relegation odds after our fortunate 1-1 draw with Tottenham over the weekend.

They now have us down as the FIFTH most likely to be relegated this season at 5/2 – meaning we’ve moved up two places following our heavy defeat to Brighton the weekend before last.

Although it was a good point in the end, it looks like the bookies have altered their odds based on bad home defeats for both Burnley and Sheffield United over the weekend – two sides who are yet to pick up a single point so far this season.

Here’s the odds in full, with Fulham unsurprisingly backed to finish rock bottom and newly promoted Leeds way out at 10/1 after a strong start:

  • Fulham – 1/3
  • West Brom – 4/6
  • Sheffield United – 7/4
  • Burnley – 2/1
  • Newcastle – 5/2
  • West Ham – 10/3
  • Aston Villa – 4/1
  • Crystal Palace – 6/1
  • Brighton – 6/1
  • Leeds – 10/1
  • Southampton – 10/1

Interestingly, we were being offered at a price of just 9/4 last week and were deemed the THIRD most likely to go down – meaning the draw at Tottenham convinced the bookies we were somehow less likely to be relegated.

That said, I suspect it’s more down to how badly the likes of Fulham, West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley have started, with all four picking up just one point between them!

I personally think that our performance at Tottenham only added to fears that we are going to be fighting to stay up this season – if the penalty mare didn’t occur, we would’ve lost and our odds would’ve been slashed!

That said, we’ll have to hope that we improve once all of our star men and new signings are fit and have had time to gel. Either that or there’s three teams poorer than us in 35 games time!
