Newcastle insert huge clause after agreeing fee to sell local lad to Championship side – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sell Dan Barlaser to Rotherham – but there’s a catch.

As revealed by Lee Ryder, the 23-year-olds move to the newly promoted Championship side includes a massive 50% sell-on clause, meaning we’ll earn a huge chunk of any future fee Rotherham receive.

This is something we did with recently departed striker Ivan Toney, who earned us a few million via a 30% clause after sealing a big money from Peterborough to Brentford this summer.

The Chronicle state that Steve Bruce agreed to the sale with a “heavy heart” after he impressed in pre-season, however he’s believed to have told the midfielder that he wouldn’t have been called up to his 25-man squad.

It’s also reported that nor the club or player were keen on another loan exit, with him no longer a youngster, turning 24 in January and being out of contract next summer.

The writing was on the wall when he missed out of the squad for our Carabao Cup clash with Newport, but we wish the Gateshead-born talent all the best.

A talented player who can really pick a pass, however this is perhaps the move he needed and a move that makes sense for all parties – especially with a big sell-on fee included incase he does make it.
