Allan Saint-Maximin update arrives & Steve Bruce confirms TWO new injury concerns

Steve Bruce has confirmed that DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth have picked up knocks ahead of this weekend’s fixture with Burnley – but hints that Allan Saint-Maximin could be back.

Yedlin sat out of last night’s cup tie with Newport and Krafth travelled home with a hip problem after playing at centre-back in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash.

Saint-Maximin has been missing since he picked up an ankle injury almost a fortnight ago against Brighton, however it looks like he could be in line for a return this weekend after missing our previous two fixtures against Spurs and Newport last night.

The gaffer has provided an update on the trio ahead of our clash with the Clarets, saying this to The Chronicle:

“DeAndre has a knock and Emil has a bang on the hip.

“We don’t think it’s too serious.

“Allan wasn’t quite right but we’re hoping he will be fine for the weekend.”

Saint-Maximin’s potential return could be a much needed boost for Bruce in a game where we will be expected to be on the front foot against a usually stubborn Burnley side.

A home game against a team that is going to sit back and look to grind out a result is a perfect opportunity for us to judge Bruce – who has taken a lot of flak in recent weeks for our negative style of play that’s left us looking so disjointed.

Burnley themselves have gotten off to a poor start this campaign, losing both their opening fixtures and being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Man City’s second string 3-0 last night.

Steve Bruce can have no excuses if we fail to show up on Saturday.

Charlie’s prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Burnley
