Earlier this week, it was confirmed by multiple sources in Peru that we were all but sealed the signing of Rodrigo Vilca after agreeing a fee with Deportivo Municipal.
Journalist Diego Montalvan reported earlier this week that we’d agreed a fee, and the club’s President José Córdova then announced on Tuesday that he’d travel to Tyneside on Thursday after playing his final game for Municipal on Wednesday night.
That game took place last night and the 21-year-old was spotted leaving the field in tears after being substituted off for one final time:
It wasn’t the farewell appearance he wanted, with his side losing 5-0 at home to table-topping Liga1 side Universitario de Deportes, however he’ll soon be full of smiles after securing himself a big move to the Premier League.
Vilca has bagged three goals and three assists in 13 appearances in the Peruvian top flight this season – where his side currently sit 14th in the table – and was recently called up to the national side for the first time.
He is expected to fly out to Tyneside today and could well be confirmed as a Newcastle United player before the week is out.
