Ivan Toney reacts as NUFC draw Brentford in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup

The Carabao Cup quarter final draw has been made and it’s yet another fortunate break for Steve Bruce, with us set to take on Brentford for a place in the last 4.

This comes after our opening three games of the competitions have seen us face up against lower league opposition in Blackburn (Championship), Morecambe (League Two) and Newport (League Two), however this will be another level up against a side who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season.

The game will take place the week commencing December 21st in two and a half months time and will see us be reunited with NUFC reject Ivan Toney – who took no time to react to the draw on Twitter tonight:

The striker Rafa Benitez sold will be looking to prove a point against his former employers and, if we’re being truthful, the Bees will be fancying their chances based on our recent form under Steve Bruce.

They’ve beaten Premier League duo Southampton and West Brom on their way to the last 8, along with newly-promoted Championship side Wycombe Wanderers.

Here’s the quarter-final draw in full:

  • Stoke vs Tottenham
  • Brentford vs Newcastle
  • Arsenal vs Man City
  • Everton vs Man Utd

Our ability to avoid the big guns in cup competitions goes on, however we’ll have to be MUCH better than we were against Blackburn and Newport in previous rounds if we’re to beat a free-scoring Brentford side in December!

Nevertheless, it’s a good draw and a BIG chance to make it to the semi finals.
