NUFC player named in Premier League Team of the Month alongside Liverpool, Everton & Leicester stars

WhoScored.com have named Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow in their Premier League Team of the Month for September.

The world’s biggest football stat site have Darlow averaging a mark of 7.55 out of 10 over our first three league games, highlighting just how solid our usual second choice keeper has been since replacing the injured Martin Dubravka.

He’s made 17 saves in the process – which is more than any other Premier League goalkeeper this month – with his 11 saves at Spurs on Sunday being more than any other English goalkeeper has managed in one game since 2017.

Some may be surprised to see Darlow named in their TOTM, but it’s worth noting he also secured a clean sheet in our opening day win at West Ham.

We certainly would’ve lost the game by four or five goals if not for Darlow’s heroics over the weekend, with his display in North London believed to have ‘alerted’ Gareth Southgate.

It’s nice to see at least one Newcastle player shine in what has been a pretty dismal start to the season. Four points in three games is a solid return, but there’s been very few standouts as players look either lost or stifled in a Steve Bruce side totally lacking in identity.

Steve Bruce may have a selection headache on his hands when Dubravka returns if Darlow keeps up this fine form!
