Journalist names “realistic” loan signing he wants NUFC to pull off before 11pm on Monday

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh’s believes Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the best ‘realistic’ loan signing Newcastle should be looking at as we enter the final few days of the summer transfer window.

As Waugh highlights, the Chelsea midfielder has been made available by Frank Lampard after featuring just once in their opening five games in all competitions.

With him having that explosiveness and ability to grab a game by the scruff of the neck, he could offer exactly what we lack in midfield – not to mention the fact he can play as a no.10, out wide or in a slightly deeper role.

When asked by Pod on The Tyne Podcast host Taylor Payne “If you could make one realistic signing for Newcastle United, who would it be”, here’s what Chris Waugh had to say:

“Well seeing as Frank Lampard seems to has suggested that Ruben Loftus-Cheek may be available fore loan, I think he would be a good player Newcastle United could bring in.

“In terms of when we’re talking about that additional creativity and that link player that Newcastle maybe lack, I think that Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be a good potential loan signing.”

It should be a no-brainer for Bruce, however there could well be two issues. A) we may need to move a player or two on before someone like him could arrive and B) there’ll be several Premier League clubs in the mix, with Southampton and West Ham already linked with the 24-year-old.

George Caulkin, who also features on the podcast, didn’t give a name, but believes we definitely need to bring in another striker – and I’d tend to agree. After all, who’s scoring the goals if Callum Wilson got crocked?

Steve Bruce is also said to be keen on signing another centre-back, meaning we have work to do in the next few days if we’re to strengthen in a few key areas we’re currently short in.

Which realistic loan deal would you like to see us look at?
