Alan Shearer picks out “brilliant” NUFC duo for special praise after 3-1 win vs Burnley

Alan Shearer has praised “brilliant” duo Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson following our well deserved 3-1 win over Burnley on Saturday night.

The pair both got on the scoresheet at St James’ Park, which saw us put in a much improved display to see off Sean Dyche’s out of sorts Clarets.

Saint-Maximin scored a superb solo goal to give us a 1-0 lead, while Wilson created one and scored two – getting himself in a great position to tap in from a inch-perfect ASM cross and being on hand to convert the penalty to make sure of it late on.

Well done to the Toon indeed and hats off too to Steve Bruce for getting us playing further up the pitch – something our two match winners really did thrive off against a poor Burnley side who looked there for the taking.

Wilson’s contributions take his tally for the season up to four goals and an assist in just four Premier League starts, while it was also huge to see last season’s star man Saint-Maximin back to his best after a stuttering start to 2020/21.

Big pats on the back must also go to Emil Krafth and Joelinton too – two who’ve often been criticised over the past year, yet players who played a big part in this well earned win.

A great result heading into the international break and a much needed boost for Steve Bruce!

  1. I actually thought Joelinton had a decent game for us. Better finishing and ball control could make us have second thoughts about him but he does seem to be playing better in freer role.
