It’s not quite the first-team signing we were hoping for on deadline day, but Rodrigo Vilca looks all set to sign at St James’ Park in the next few hours.
The 21-year-old has been spotted travelling to Tyneside this morning, with Peruvian reporter Diego Montalvan also revealing that he’ll sign a 4-year-deal at the club if and when he passes a medical.
The move is believed to be worth around £250,000, with him expected to go into the club’s U-23 set up initially:
The Mail’s Craig Hope has also confirmed that the deal is imminent in the last few moments, and says that he comes highly recommended by Nolberto Solano.
He states that the former Newcastle winger and fellow South American is a ‘big admirer’ of Vilca and was left impressed by the no.10 after he was recently called up to train with the Peruvian national side.
Let’s hope this isn’t the only incoming deal at St James’ Park today and that the Deportivo Municipal man goes on to have a brilliant future in a black and white shirt.
