Jamal Lewis has withdrawn from Northern Ireland’s Nations League clash with Norway tomorrow night, with The Northern Echo believing he’s now a ‘doubt’ for Saturday’s clash with Man Utd.
The £15m summer arrival from Norwich has picked up an achilles injury during the international break and is set to have a scan to take a closer look at what’s been described as an ‘ongoing niggle’.
The good news is that Northern Ireland’s boss Ian Baraclough says he’s “improving” and insists the injury is nothing major, however it remains to be seen if he’ll be fit enough to face the Red Devils at St James’ Park on Saturday night.
Lewis has started four of the six games he’s been available to play for us in all competitions this season, and has also had a busy week on international duty up until now.
The 22-year-old has also racked up 210 minutes of football over the past week, playing through extra-time in Northern Ireland’s Euro 2020 play-off semi-final victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday night and then again in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Austria.
Let’s hope the scans come back OK and he’s fit to start on Saturday. We’ll need him to be based on our lack of alternatives at left-back!
