Steve Bruce reveals “ludicrous” Saint-Maximin moment that left NUFC players stunned

Steve Bruce has revealed the “ludicrous” moment of brilliance from Allan Saint-Maximin that left he and the rest of the Newcastle United astounded in training this week.

The manager has been praising the Frenchman in his pre-match presser today, expressing his delight at the new six-year deal he signed this week – saying he’s been “jumping around” the training ground with joy following a well deserved pay rise.

Unfortunately, there was no recorded video of his stunning goal in training – but we can imagine how good probably it was as we all know what the exciting 23-year-old is capable of.

Here’s what Bruce had to say about it all:

“He’s jumping around – a nice new pay deal and all the rest of it!

“He couldn’t be any happier at the minute, that’s for sure.

“We’re delighted that the lad’s committed his future to us.

“We’ve all seen what an impact he’s had.”

“He scored a goal the other day in training – I wish we had it on tape,”

“It was just ludicrous how good it was. I think we all applauded.

“We know what he’s got in terms of ability.

“It’s the next step up to it, that maturity, that surely will come to him.”

“He’s a really bright, intelligent lad and he’s great to have around.

“He’s only 23 and has got the world at his feet.”

Here’s a stunning goal he scored in training last year:

Despite his praise of Saint-Maximin’s technical ability, I can’t help but pick on his comment about the winger’s ‘maturity’.

I’d imagine it’s in reference to his on-field decision making, as he’s certainly a good-egg in the dressing room (contrary to popular belief) and seems to have a great relationship with his team-mates.

What I imagine Bruce is saying is that although his talent is marvellous, his decision-making, final ball and inconsistency can sometimes let him down. He often tries to do just a little bit too much.

If that maturity does come to him like Bruce says, I really believe that we’ve got one of the best wingers in the Premier League on our hands – and for the next six years might I add!
