NUFC’s January signing from Arsenal shines with stunning goal & assist in U-23 win – One to watch?

As Newcastle United’s U-23’s took on Fulham at St James’ Park on Monday, a lot of the talk was centred around Rodrigo Vilca’s debut and starts for Dummett, Clark, Matty Longstaff and Lazaar.

While Vilca gained many plaudits for an impressive performance, it was another new signing who stole the show.

That man was Stan Flaherty, the attacking midfielder signed from Arsenal in January who played a key part in our late comeback with an impressive assist and brilliant late goal.

Several journalists in attendance were also full of praise for the 18-year-old’s overall performance, with Craig Hope stating he was our “best player” and Chris Waugh describing him as star man in the 2-1 win:

As The Athletic’s Chris Waugh states above, he did brilliantly to set up Toure’s equaliser and also hit the post earlier in the game before curling home the winner in the 87th minute.

This now takes him up to three goals and an assist in three PL2 starts for the season, with him scoring twice in our 1-3 win at Burnley last month.

One to watch alongside NUFC new boy Rodrigo Vilca this season? It looks that way!

  1. Bruce relies on defenders to score, he was one at Manu. Strikers are twiddling there thumbs with the coach.
