According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United showed serious interest in Fiorentina striker Dušan Vlahović over the summer.
This comes from Florence-based outlet La Nazione, who report that we had identified the 6ft 3′ powerhouse as a target before sealing a £20m deal for Callum Wilson.
They claim to be “sure” that we registered an interest in the man dubbed to be the ‘next Zlatan Ibrahmovic’, also reporting that Wolfsburg and AS Roma made unsuccessful moves for the 20-year-old.
In the end, Vlahović remained with Fiorentina and has scored once in four league appearances so far this season after bagging nine across 2019/20 in his breakthrough season in Serie A.
Vlahović is already a Serbian international and recently played alongside former Mag Aleksandar Mitrovic in their UEFA Nations League clashes with Turkey and Hungary.
One to watch in future transfer windows or one to forget now we’ve got our man in Callum Wilson? We shall see, but it’s unlikely to be the last we here of him – whether he ends up on Tyneside or not!
