Tim Sherwood says NUFC fans have “short memories” in shameless rant on Sky Sports – Video

When you see what Tim Sherwood has had to say about Newcastle United and Steve Bruce on Sky Sports this afternoon, it’s very easy to see why he never made it in football management.

Speaking to Jeff Stelling on Sky Sports, the former Spurs boss says NUFC fans have “short memories” regarding their love of Rafa Benitez and criticism of Steve Bruce, claiming the Spaniard complained far more than our current boss and played a poorer brand of football.

He also claims we’re “not good enough defensively” for Bruce to field all of his attacking options, yet claims he “sets his team up to win football matches” and “doesn’t get enough credit for that”.

Watch his car-crash of an assessment below:

Where do you start with this?

Not only does he dodge Stelling’s question, instead defending Bruce like a man who’s clearly not seen us play in 2020, he totally ignores what Benitez brought to this club.

OK, we were sometimes too negative during his tenure, but Benitez didn’t have the luxury of Wilson, Saint-Maximin, Almiron and Fraser. He also had a plan in each and every game and had us defending a hundred times better than we are now.

Perhaps Sherwood should do his research before he goes on one defending his old pal ‘Brucey’.

  1. Fully agree with Sherwood, the football under Rafa was the worst I’ve watched in 50 years of supporting NUFC.

Do I think Bruce is getting the best from this squad?, far from it, what tactic’s do we have???.

Do I think Bruce should be replaced?, yes as soon as possible before it’s too late.

Who would I replace him with?, Eddie Howe, who without a doubt would get better performances from that squad, would play good attractive football AND would avoid relegation this season which I personally don’t think Bruce will.

  2. He’s giving his opinion, I think an honest opinion, why say it’s a shameless rant . you’re far too keen to take offence,

Saying we have “short memories”, suggesting we expect too much and praising a manager via ill-informed views is more than just an opinion – it’s just plain wrong.

Yes it’s a game of opinions, but when someone is paid handsomely as a pundit yet gets it THIS wrong about the current situation at NUFC, I think it’s only right we tear apart his comments.
