Newcastle hoping to beat Everton & Wolves to January deal for Championship star – Report

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are one of several Premier League sides eyeing a January move for Middlesbrough star Djed Spence.

They report that ourselves, Everton, Wolves and Crystal Palace are all showing interest in the right-sided 20-year-old – who has been one of the brightest players in the Championship so far this season.

Spence was handed a new contract at the Riverside by former Mag Jonathan Woodgate earlier this year, but TEAMtalk report that new boss Neil Warnock is now at risk of losing him in the new year.

The ‘exclusive’ states that we are carrying out ‘regular checks’ on the youngster, who is expected to earn a call-up to England next U-21 squad.

Spence has played a big part in Boro’s brilliant start to the Champonship season, with them currently 5th and having the best defence in the league – conceding just FIVE goals in nine games so far.

With that in mind, they’ll be reluctant to sell one of their star men in a season where promotion could be on the cards, however the financial battles EFL sides are facing during COVID may mean they’d reluctantly cash in.

We lack quality at right-back, with Krafth not looking up to it at Premier League level and Yedlin likely to be in his last season at St James’ Park, however Spence looks a real talent and is versatile, playing anywhere down the right.

Here’s him in action:
