Brilliant Callum Wilson stat now has him above Alan Shearer & behind only TWO ex-Mags

£20m summer signing Callum Wilson bagged a brace on Sunday and, in doing so, achieved a Premier League feat not even Alan Shearer could match during his time at St James’ Park.

His double took his total to six goals in seven games since joining Newcastle – beating Big Al’s tally at this stage in his black-and-white career, with Shearer scoring four in his first seven.

Only Les Ferdinand (eight in seven) and Papiss Cisse (seven in seven) have had better starts to their Toon careers in the top flight, highlighting just how well Wilson has done!

Andy Cole was also a goal machine for us upon arrival and his record saw him bag 12 goals in his first 12 appearances. However, his figures were achieved in the second tier – not the Premier League – as he helped clinch promotion for us in 1992/93.

Wilson made it an open secret that the biggest factor in his decision to join us was the prospect of being re-called to the England team.

With six goals already, albeit three being penalties, he currently has the same amount of league goals as England captain Harry Kane – with whispers of a potential call-up from Toon fans since his latest brace over the weekend.

He is currently behind Kane, Calvert-Lewin, Rashford and Ings in the pecking order. But, with a personal goal in mind, his attempts to break into the squad can only be beneficial to our cause!
