Leicester City ‘in talks’ with NUFC flop in bid to secure bargain of the summer – Report

According to reports in France, Leicester City are now in talks to bring former Newcastle United flop Florian Thauvin back to the Premier League next summer.

This comes from L’Equipe, who claim that the Foxes have ‘approached’ the Marseille star and are hoping he’ll sign a pre-contract agreement at the King Power Stadium – with Thauvin’s contract set to expire next summer as things stand.

The report does state that they’ll face stiff competition, however, with AC Milan and Napoli also in the running – which is no surprise given a player valued at £35m could be available on a Bosman!

The 27-year-old completed a £12m move to Tyneside in August 2015, but after no goals in 13 top flight appearances and clear signs that he was unsettled in England, he was loaned back to Marseille the following January and never returned.

Since then he’s been in superb form for Marseille. He struggled with injuries across 2019/20 and played just twice, but bagged a stunning 44 goals and 26 assists in the two seasons prior – form that saw him be part of France’s World Cup winning squad in 2018.

The timing of his spell on Tyneside and first stint in England seemed wrong for a whole host of reasons, however it’ll be a real case of ‘what if’ should he signs for Brendan Rodgers and become a Premier League star next season!
