England squad announced – Baffling picks & no place for Callum Wilson or Karl Darlow

Gareth Southgate’s England squad has been announced ahead of the upcoming international break – and there’s no place for Callum Wilson or Karl Darlow.

A tough call to take for the Newcastle United duo, with Wilson bagging six goals in seven games this season and Darlow making more saves than any other goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues across 2020/21.

Instead, Southgate has selected FIVE right-backs and three goalkeepers who are either not playing for their club (Henderson) or out of form (Pickford and Pope).

Here’s the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope.

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell, Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Joe Gomez, Reece James, Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Tyrone Mings, Bukayo Saka, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker.

Midfielders: Phil Foden, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, Declan Rice, James Ward-Prowse, Harry Winks.

Forwards: Tammy Abraham, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling.

The upcoming international break will see the Three Lions play a friendly against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley (12th Nov) before UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium (15th Nov) and Iceland (18th Nov).

A real shame for both – especially Wilson after his stunning form in front of goal – however the consolation for Steve Bruce is both will be given a well deserved rest ahead of our trip to Chelsea two weeks on Saturday.
