Pochettino ‘approached’ by Premier League club 6 months on from being the Saudis ‘No 1’ target

Sky Sports reported back in April that Mauricio Pochettino was the Saudis ‘top target’ should a £300m takeover go through on Tyneside.

Now, six months later, some ‘breaking news’ from TalkSPORT reveals that Manchester United chiefs have today made an approach for the out of work Argentine over a potential return to the Premier League.

They claim that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has “lost the confidence of the board” following their awful start to the season, with them slipping to 15th in the table after losing to Arsenal over the weekend and falling to a 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir last night.

TalkSPORT insist that he won’t be sacked before Saturday’s early kick-off at Everton, but it seems the writing is now on the wall for the Norwegian, with Pochettino appearing to have been offered the job if and when OGS loses his job.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football earlier this week, here’s what Pochettino said when asked about a potential return to management 12 months on from his Spurs exit:

“I’m always ready to be involved in the game again. I love football, it’s my passion, it’s not my job.

“It’s not stressful when you are working, it’s not stressful to go into the training ground, it’s not stressful to prepare the game, it’s not stressful to compete.”

A real case of what could’ve been for Newcastle United.
