In just over a month’s time, we travel to Brentford knowing a win will send us into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
One player who’ll have something to say about that is Ivan Toney – who’s officially the countries most prolific player for 2020 and the first man to reach 20 goals after getting on the scoresheet once again.
Toney, who replaced Ollie Watkins in a £10m deal this summer, scored past Newcastle United loanee Freddie Woodman in a 1-1 draw with Swansea this week.
It was his 10th goal in as many games for Brentford and, ss you can see below, it leaves him the top scorer across all top English leagues for the calendar year:
Isn’t it ironic that he’s second to Adam Armstrong – the Championship’s second top scorer and another young striker we may well have sold too soon!
Considering Toney was constantly loaned out during his time on Tyneside and eventually sold to League One side Peterborough for £650,000, you just know he’ll be out to prove a point when he meets Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United next month.
