Ex-Mag still eyeing return to Newcastle Utd – and could be available on a free in 2021 – Report

According to The Chronicle, Jetro Willems is still eager to complete a return to Newcastle United.

The Dutchman enjoyed a superb loan spell at St James’ Park across 2019/20, however his season was cut short after suffering a devastating ACL injury in our 1-0 win over Chelsea in January.

He’s yet to kick a ball since, only recently stepping up his recovery after returning to light training with Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of an expected return to action in the New Year.

That said, his contract with the Bundesliga side expires next summer, meaning he’ll be available to sign on a free in 2021

.Whether we take another look at the 26-year-old remains to be seen, yet Mark Douglas insists that he’s still eyeing a return to Tyneside if Steve Bruce will have him.

Who knows what the club are thinking – we’ve splashed out £15m on Jamal Lewis but still lack depth at left-back – however it goes without saying that he’d have to prove his fitness over the coming months before any sort of deal would be revisited.

Here’s what the former PSV star posted on Twitter on Friday night, showing himself watching our trip to Southampton from afar:

Would you take him back next summer if he stayed fit and was available to sign on a free?
