‘Back soon’ – Official photos show injured NUFC star has returned way ahead of schedule

On October 2nd, the club confirmed that Matt Ritchie had undergone a successful operation on the shoulder injury picked up in our 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

It was a heavy fall and big blow for Steve Bruce, with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reporting that he’d be sidelined for ‘at least two months’.

With that in mind, he was expected to return no sooner than December, but six weeks later he appears to be way ahead of schedule.

As you can see below, the hard-working wide man has been spotted back in full contact training at the club’s Benton base today, with him full of smiles and ‘back soon’:

An official update from the club states that he was “able to resume training following the acromioclavicular joint injury” on Wednesday afternoon.

That said, it’s been confirmed on NUFC.co.uk that Callum Wilson did NOT take part in today’s session – although The Athletic’s Chris Waugh reports that the striker still has an ‘outside chance’ of making next weekend’s clash with Chelsea after limping off with a hamstring injury in last Friday’s defeat at Southampton.

Elsewhere, Ryan Fraser was forced to sit out of the session after withdrawing from the Scotland squad this weekend with a hamstring issue.

He may not be the guaranteed starter he once was, but it’s good to see Matt Ritchie back having recovered much quicker than expected!
