Things go from bad to worse for Ayoze Perez as £30m move to Leicester starts to turns sour

Last month, it became clear on social media that several sections of Leicester City fans had lost their patience with Ayoze Perez.

He was hooked off early by Brendan Rodgers in their 0-3 defeat to West Ham and berated by Foxes fans on Twitter (see the brutal comments we found below).

Since then, he’s not only fallen out of Leicester’s starting 11, but has been axed from Rodgers’ matchday squad entirely in two of their last three games, failing to feature since last month’s defeat to Aston Villa.

The Spaniard is an undoubted talent on his day, bagging a hat-trick for the Blues in their 0-9 win at Southampton last year, however it probably sums up his inconsistency that he’s only scored in FOUR other games since that rout over a year ago.

Considering he set the club back £30m, it’s not really enough – and it seems both Leicester City fans and now Brendan Rodgers are starting to lose faith in the 27-year-old.

Here’s what we found on social media when searching his name and the Leicester City hashtag:

What a waste of money too. Our signings are generally good. Not this one.. get rid and get a forward in!!

Can someone please explain to me what Perez offers?? Not blaming today’s shambles on him but asking generally.

Ayoze Perez poor again. Said that before.

Ayoze Perez plays like when you’re controller disconnects mid-game, but it lasts the whole 90 minutes.

Perez is a complete waste of time #LCFC … absolute joke that he cost £30m!

Easy to rip into Perez isn’t it but the truth is, he’s ******* dreadful.

Perez has to come off, such a frustrating footballer.

Ayoze ‘End of the Move’ Perez can get in the ******* bin.

Perez isn’t good enough is he ?

Perez literally falls over or gets bullied off the ball everytime..get him off

Perez has given the ball away 379 times in 25 mins….If we can find a buyer for Perez today, then get rid! He’s been **** since signing, had one good game against Southampton and done nothing else.

I just don’t get Perez at all…Brings nothing. Does nothing.

Get that fairy Perez off the pitch, can’t stay on his feet for 5 seconds.

About time for Perez had spell to the bench, ineffective again.

He may well respond and force his way back into Brendan Rodger’s plans, however I would not be surprised if he finds himself back in Spain in the coming year or so.

After all, he said on more than one occasions during his time on Tyneside that he ‘dreams’ of an eventual return to La Liga, with the likes of Villarreal, Sevilla and Real Betis all linked with moves before Leicester City snapped him up for £30m last July.

A good player on his day and someone who was, if anything, under-appreciated at Newcastle given he got into double figures in each of his last three seasons, however he’s got serious work to do if he wants to win over the Leicester City faithful who can’t afford passengers when top of the table!

  1. Too right Paul (above)

We haven’t exactly spent the 30 million wisely – Joelinton, Hendrick, Backslider Fraser, Carroll, AND Bruce!

Talk about an unlucky pile of Sh!te – time for MD Charmless to get the sack

  2. Mate, he literally played in their Europa tie last week and assisted Maddison. Leicester have a big squad now; few players have a guaranteed starts.

That doesn’t change the fact Leicester City fans on social media (and two I know) have turned on him, along with the fact he’s been left out of Rodgers’ squad entirely over the past few PL games.

He divided opinion at NUFC, but I can’t find many Foxes fans who rate him!

  4. Leicester fans now know how flaky Perez is and why he puts his fingers in his ears when he ( rarely ) scores – a Newcastle fan.

  5. He basically hasn’t come on as a player since he left Newcastle continuing where he left off with us for Leicester.
The same thing where he has a good game once in a blue moon then the rest of the time anonymous apart from falling over to get free kicks.

That has been the only good thing about Ashley is his ability to know when to cash in on vastly overrated players for staggering amounts of money.

  6. Leicester’s defensive injuries have meant Rodgers has gone with 3 centre backs on recent games. Perez certainly isn’t a wing back. Add to that the emergence of Under, and the form of Barnes, plus Madisson returning from injury…then it was always going to be tough for Perez. Unless there’s been a genuine fall out then I expect him to be back in contention when we return to a 4141 formation. Personally I think he’s a good squad option… But when injuries forced a back 5 then I don’t see how he fits in… Which may be why he wasn’t even in the bench.
