Roy Keane hits out at Jeff Hendrick after England 3-0 Ireland – “It’s not good enough”

Roy Keane has criticised Newcastle United midfielder Jeff Hendrick for some schoolboy defending in Ireland’s 3-0 defeat at Wembley last night.

The Irishman started the game with some nice touches and slick balls into the final third, however things went downhill for the summer signing as he allowed Jadon Sancho to score all too easily.

Speaking as a pundit on ITV, here’s what Keane had to say about Hendrick’s role in England’s second:

“Jeff Hendrick has got to get tighter.

“There’s no excuse…there’s bodies around him, he’s in the box, Jeff has to close down.

“This idea that at this level players can be two or three yards off a dangerous player like that?…

It’s not good enough, he has to get tighter.”

Here is the clip of the goal itself, which sees Hendrick fail to get close to Sancho then turn his back as the winger fires his shot through his legs:

Harsh from Keane? Or was it some home truths Hendrick needed to hear last night?
