NUFC eye move for Senegalese star as Steve Bruce has money to spend in January – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have been scouting Ligue 1 goal-machine Boulaye Dia ahead of the January transfer window.

Dia, 24, is a Senegalese international who has been in stunning form so far this season, with his eight goals in eight games putting him one ahead of PSG’s Kylian Mbappe in France’s goalscoring charts for 2020/21.

His record is made all the more impressive given he plays for Ligue 1 minnows Stade Reims – who are just one point above the relegation zone in 16th as things stand.

The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder also states that there is “money left in the bank” for Steve Bruce heading into the January window, and it seems the French-born striker may be one of our top targets in the striker department “leaping to the attention” of club scouts in recent months.

That said, Ryder does report that he’s also receiving interest from Marseille and Brighton, meaning there’s plenty competition.

Dia is also able to play on the right-wing – somewhere he’s played twice already this season – but the 6ft forward tends to operate as a central striker.

With Gayle out of contract next summer, Carroll past it, Joelinton not a No 9 and Muto way down the pecking order as he struggles for game time in Spain, the signing of another striker should be high on the agenda this winter, with our over-reliance on Callum Wilson evident.

Here he is in action:
