NUFC star spotted back in training – but 7 nowhere to be seen 48 hours before Chelsea clash

Newcastle United have released photos of the squad in training – and they’ve given a good indication as to who is fit and who may not be ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off against Chelsea.

The good news is that Jonjo Shelvey has returned after a hernia operation, meaning he should be back in contention after missing our last two.

Elsewhere, Matt Ritchie is in action once again along with U-23 star Elliot Anderson, while the likes of Jeff Hendrick (Republic of Ireland), Fabian Schar (Switzerland) and Emil Krafth (Sweden) can all be seen training at the Benton base after returning early from international duty.

Now to the potentially bad news, with none of the 48 photos featuring Callum Wilson or Ryan Fraser, suggesting both are facing an uphill battle to be fit for Saturday after recent hamstring injuries.

Martin Dubravka and Dwight Gayle remain out, while the absence of Miguel Almiron (Paraguay), Jamal Lewis (Northern Ireland) and Ciaran Clark (Republic of Ireland) suggest they’re set for late returns to Tyneside.

Here’s a full list of the players nowhere to be seen in NUFC.co.uk’s training photos, suggesting they’re either still injured or yet to return from international duty:

  • Callum Wilson (hamstring)
  • Ryan Fraser (hamstring)
  • Martin Dubrakva (heel)
  • Dwight Gayle (hamstring)
  • Miguel Almiron (Paraguay)
  • Ciaran Clark (Republic of Ireland)
  • Jamal Lewis (Northern Ireland)

One surprise is that Paul Dummett appears to have trained, despite reports earlier this week stating he was set to be out until the new year after suffering another injury setback.
