Bruce reveals bizarre injury scare after Chelsea defeat & shares Callum Wilson update

Steve Bruce has provided an update on the fitness of Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson after yesterday’s dismal defeat to Chelsea, seeming hopeful both will be OK for next weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Lascelles limped off at half time and was replaced by Fabian Schar, which turned out to be a disaster as the Swiss international was woeful in the second half and all at sea for Chelsea’s second.

As for Wilson, he was not in the match day squad, failing a late fitness test after Bruce decided not to take a risk on his hamstring – claiming he could’ve lost him for ‘six weeks’ had it gone during the game.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say on both, starting with Wilson:

“I couldn’t risk him today because of the threat of a hamstring injury and being out for the next six weeks.

“We’ve erred on the side of caution and hope he’s going to be OK for next week.”

Bruce then revealed how Lascelles’ injury went from a sore knee at the break to an issue with his thigh when he stepped out for the second half:

“It’s a strange one because he hurt his knee just before half time.

“As he’s run out to try and test his knee, he’s felt his thigh.

“It was a difficult one.

“We hope he’s not too bad.”

A funny one for the skipper, with it seeming as though he picked up TWO separate issues in the opening 45.

With Lascelles our organiser at the back and Wilson the talisman we can’t cope without, we’ll have to hope both are fit for next weekend – especially the latter!
