NCSL drop takeover bombshell – Hypocrisy of the highest order if these Spurs claims are true…

The Newcastle Consortium Supporters Ltd claim that Spurs were trying to attract Saudi owners last year for a reported £3.5billion takeover – only to be REJECTED by the potential investors.

Considering Amanda Staveley told The Athletic that Spurs were one of two clubs vehemently against any proposals for PIF to buy our club, this would be hypocrisy of the highest order from Tottenham if true.

In an ‘exclusive’ from the Shields Gazette, it is also said that the group were closely linked to our would-be owners, and that they had recently held talks with Liverpool – but talks broke down.

Toon fans have conspired since the takeover was announced that the Premier League denied the deal so that they could protect their ‘big six’ and keep anyone else from eating with them at the top table.

These new claims strongly support that argument, and could potentially be used as evidence in any arbitration ruling.

Here is a snippet of what Keith Patterson from NCSL said in the Gazette’s piece:

“Tottenham Hotspur, in a negotiation which broke down in March 2019, approached investors in the region we are talking about – two months before the Newcastle deal was ironed out – to buy the football club for £2.5billion, with a further £1billion in add ons.

“The deal was taken to the investors in Saudi Arabia, by a dealmaker named as Eldridge Investments, and rejected.

“The whole deal totals £3.5billion – Newcastle was set to be sold for one tenth of that price. I have had that exact same information from three different credible sources.

“That concerns me. People are trying to prevent our deal going through, but were trying to do a similar deal themselves for 10 times the amount.

“But I feel on this alone that fans of both Spurs and Newcastle need to learn this so that they understand what is happening within their club. Then we can go somewhere to appreciate why this willing buyer and willing seller cannot do a simple deal.”

While this news would add substance to any legal proceedings, it remains just speculation for now and it would be stupid to get totally carried away.

If true, Spurs have shown themselves to be nothing but hypocrites. It makes you think whether they are fearful of being dispatched from the big boys club should we happen to gain the backing of the Saudis. After all, there is an argument to suggest that they shouldn’t be mentioned in any ‘big six’ conversation.

Discussing all the intrinsic details of law and finances is becoming jaded when, as a fan, all we want to do is discuss football and what is happening on the pitch.

This situation has been confirmed by the club itself to be taking place behind the scenes. Our best course of action as supporters is to sit back and hope for the best.

  1. Like you have any right to question spurs stature, with 8 trophies since your last `trophy’ in 1969. The investors pulled out because Newcastle are dogshit, too much effort…

  3. I’m sorry but this has to be said.

How many times do we have to clarify for the less intelligent fans that the takeover of Newcastle United fell flat on it’s face because of an individual, not a nation. It failed because of the involvement of the Saudi Crown Prince, who is individually responsible for genocide, state sponsored assassination and human rights abuse, and the use of his personal piggy bank to fund the takeover.
It did not fail because he’s just any old Saudi.

As such even if Spurs did object to MBS buying the club (which is highly doubtful) the fact that they were in talks with a completely unrelated Saudi group is not in any way hypocrisy.

If you can’t tell the difference between the Saudi Crown Prince and a completely separate investment group, or you don’t understand why someone might object to MBS buying the club but not someone else you really should not be confirming your ignorance to the world by printing uninformed rants like this.

You really do need an education, and I don’t mean by reading what other pissed of bloggers are saying.
