NUFC fans set to learn their fate on Thursday as 3-tier plan to return to stadiums is revealed

The Prime Minister has announced that football stadiums can hold up to 4,000 supporters once the UK lockdown ends on December 2nd – but it will all depend on what tier certain areas of the country find themselves in later this week.

Boris Johnson delivered the news which will come to a huge sigh of relief to football fans across the country, who have been starved of their match day buzz since March.

The news came as he revealed his government’s new, stricter, three-tiered system that will operate when the national measures are lifted on December 2, with clubs located in the strictest tier still prevented from allowing supporters into their grounds.

Tier two restrictions will allow for up to 2,000 fans or 50% (whichever is lower) of their capacity through the door. The most lenient category – tier one – will authorise cash-strapped clubs to permit 4,000 or 50% of their fans inside stadiums.

  • Tier 1 – 4,000
  • Tier 2 – 2,000
  • Tier 3 – Zero

Mr Johnson is expected to unveil which tiers will apply to what areas on Thursday, and it could be more bad news for Newcastle fans as the North East are likely to be lumped into tier three.
