Bruce confirms COVID blow during big injury update – 4 fit, 1 doubt & 3 ruled out for Crystal Palace

Speaking to the press in the last few moments, Steve Bruce has shared a big injury update ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Crystal Palace.

To begin with, he confirms that we have “one or two” self-isolating due to COVID-19 scares and a few niggles – but refuses to name individuals in that department.

The good news, however, is Callum Wilson has been passed fit after training all week.

Elsewhere, Bruce confirms Dwight Gayle is fit again and back in training, with Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie also expected to feature tomorrow after coming through another week’s work at Benton.

The slight worry is that Jamaal Lascelles is a ‘doubt’ after coming off at half-time against Chelsea last weekend.

Ryan Fraser has also been ruled out once again – but could be back next weekend – while Martin Dubravka and Paul Dummett appear to remain out.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say:

“We’ve got one or two doubts and, unfortunately, a few problems with COVID…people showing symptoms and isolating.

“We’ll have to manage that situation.

“I don’t want to give individual names.”

. “Callum Wilson will be fit.

“He will be available which we’re delighted about.

“Ryan Fraser is still a week or so away.

“Jamaal Lascelles is a doubt.

“Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey are both OK and will feature.”

So, COVID cases look set to rule a few out of tomorrow’s game, but it’s very good news on Callum Wilson.

It’ll also be good to have Matt Ritchie back for his intensity, while Jonjo Shelvey’s return could add a bit of quality and creativity to a midfield that’s been lacking in ideas in recent weeks.

As for Lascelles, at least we have the capable Ciaran Clark fit again should the skipper miss out at Selhurst Park.
