Steve Bruce has labelled fit-again Ciaran Clark as one of Newcastle’s most underrated players – even going as far as to say that the 31-year old is ‘Mr Dependable’.
The Irishman made his first Premier League appearance of the season against Chelsea following a six month spell on the sidelines as a result of a horror ankle injury, and it seems he’s in line to keep his place for the clash against Crystal Palace on Friday night.
Speaking to BBC Newcastle, Bruce praised Clark highly – stating that ‘whenever he’s been available, I’ve always gone to him’:
I have to agree that Clark is one of our more underrated players. As Bruce says, he’s solid, he puts his body on the line and his left foot provides a nice sense of balance in the defence.
He’s definitely a no-nonsense defender, which probably explains why he suits Bruce’s defensive approach so well, and in fairness, he rarely puts a foot wrong.
Hopefully he can stay fit for long-term and keep providing solid competition for places with Lascelles, Schär and Fernandez!
