A real touch of class arrived from Andy Carroll just minutes after the full-time whistle at Selhurst Park last night.
The striker, who missed watched on from home with a calf injury, paid tribute to his teammate on Twitter, saying our number 9 was “absolutely brilliant” and fully deserved his goal after a tireless display up top.
Here’s what big Andy said in response to a NUFC post celebrating Joelinton’s goal and assist last night:
“Absolutely brilliant from our number 9 tonight.
“Never stopped working and a well deserved goal to top it off!!”
Some of his finishing may have been weak and unconvincing in the first half, but for me he was getting into good positions, creating space for himself and others, putting himself about and linking the play nicely, with a goal and an assist the least he deserved on the night.
The big man appears to be a popular figure in the dressing room and someone several of our players are happy to see do well, with Allan Saint-Maximin sending some love to the Brazilian this morning after his influential display:
Let’s hope Bruce keeps him in the team and, crucially, keeps him in that second striker role just off Callum Wilson.
Well done Joelinton – some well deserved praise on a big night for the 24-year-old!
