Florian Lejeune’s loan spell in Spain went from good to great on Saturday night, with him playing a big part in Alaves’ stunning win over Real Madrid.
The Frenchman captained Alaves at the Bernabeu and came away with a superb 1-2 win – with a second half strike from former Mag Joselu proving to be the difference!
Lejeune ended the game the highest rated defender on the pitch according to WhoScored.com, with him earning a 7.5 rating as he kept Hazard, Asensio and Isco quiet – as well as clearing off the line in the 82nd minute to send Alaves above Barcelona and up to 9th.
Here’s a clip of Joselu’s goal after an awful error from Courtois:
Great to see Lejeune not only playing week in, week out after a few injury riddled seasons, but looking back to something like his best.
Keep this up and he should be thrown straight back into Steve Bruce’s plans when he returns next summer, with his first season at St James’ Park proving what a class act he can be when fully fit.
Some night in Spain for our in-form frenchman and former striker!
