Alan Shearer names NUFC’s unsung hero in his Premier League Team of the Week

Based on the post-match polls I saw after last Friday’s 0-2 win at Crystal Palace, the majority of fans were voting for Joelinton, Karl Darlow or Callum Wilson as their man of the match.

Federico Fernandez didn’t come into the equation for some, however the Argentine has been named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week – and rightly so!

Although his display may have been easily forgotten after the late show from Joelinton and Callum Wilson – who bagged a goal and an assist each in the final five minutes – it was Fernandez’s goal-saving block at 0-0 that allowed us to go on and nick it!

Here’s Shearer’s team in full after match week 10:

Darlow made few big saves and Ciaran Clark didn’t put a foot wrong, but Bruce may have headed North with no points had Fernandez not miraculously stopped that close-range strike from Kouyate.

After an error at Southampton and an own goal against Chelsea, it’s fair to say the experienced South American made up for it last Friday!
