NUFC hoping to sign Man Utd talent on loan – but face competition from Southampton – Report

The Chronicle report that Newcastle are interested in signing Manchester United talent Brandon Williams on loan in January.

The 20-year-old can play at left-back, right-back and as a wing-back and is expected to be made available next month, with Alex Telles and Luke Shaw currently ahead of him in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Lee Ryder states that Steve Bruce is keen to bring in added competition in this area, with Paul Dummett struggling with a persistent injury, leaving Jamal Lewis our only recognised left-back.

The Chronicle also reveal how the Newcastle United boss has an ‘excellent rapport’ with Mike Phelan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claiming that both would consider any offer that would see Williams link up with Bruce.

That said, it’s said that Southampton are also interested in signing the England U-21 international – a club that tried to bring him to St Mary’s back in September.

Williams has already racked up 40 appearances for the Red Devils, managing a goal and three assists in that time, however he’s only played once in the Premier League so far this season.

One to watch next month, along with recently linked Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori.
